Will Wearable Technology Catch Up?
Will Wearable Technology Catch On?
I think wearable technology will catch on because it already has. For example, according to Smartwatch Statistics, there are “454.69 million smartwatch users worldwide”, and wearable technology will continue to expand as we invent more things (Kumar).
One category where wearable technology will expand to is clothing. Right now, people are already making clothes that are good at keeping you warm or cool, and in the future, clothes could even feature integrated sensors that detect early signs of disease and record data to track diseases. Even now, we already have smart shirts from companies such as Wearable X, a partnership between Google and Levi Strauss, and Hexoskin. Robert Gladder from Forbes says, “The Hexoskin shirt works by gathering data from heart rate and movement, which produces similar measurements to the face mask and backpack equipment traditionally used to measure lung function. This shirt can be worn as an undershirt and is easy to use, not like the chunky equipment usually used.” That is an example of how much these advancements can help us in the future. Not all advancements have to be medical related though. Clothes could be made from fabric that could be tailored automatically to climate conditions so you won’t have to wear many layers. They could also be tailored to the user’s body shape and have other visual elements such as embedded LED lights. Eventually in the far future, clothes could also eventually be made to blend into the wearer’s surroundings, making you invisible, which would be a huge military advancement.
Another category wearable technology can expand to is jewelry and accessories. Scientists are already developing smart glasses which can be used as an Augmented Reality to project words in front of you like an invisible screen, check notifications discretely, or chat with AI assistants. Kids could use these glasses as well to interact with their video games in real life, creating a whole new dimension of online gaming.
Because of the potential of wearable technology, I think it will not die out. Instead, it will expand and become even better in the future, from smart outfits to AR glasses.

Whoa this is a really cool topic. I mean, I knew wearable technology was a thing, but I didn't know many details about it. I really liked the concept about clothes that adjust based on your climate temperature and how it can make things more convenient.
ReplyDeleteI find this piece of writing engaging and informational. It is short and concise as it informs you about the influence of technology on clothing. I had fun reading this essay just as much as I learned (I never knew there were such things as Hexoskin shirts). I find it fascinating to be living in a time period where technology advances quickly. I used to wonder how technology could influence our daily lives and what more could we create in technology. I cannot wait to hear more about our time's technological advancements.
ReplyDeleteThis has been a topic that I have been interested in for many years. I like that it covers wearable technology from a partnership between brands. This post is able to convey a lot of information in a relatively short and concise piece. I feel that showcasing different aspects of the technology would have made the post a bit better, but it is still very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool! I didn't know about smartshirts or had even thought about futuristical advancements on wearable technology. I like how everything is perfectly summarized, into an essay like format, and how the uses of wearable technology is clear and concise. I also like how the technology is compared to real life uses and not just used in fictional context. I think you did really well on this blog and made it really interesting!
ReplyDeleteOverall, I liked the blog post, which highlights different existing wearable technologies and the potential future that the wearables technologies have. I think the fact that wearable technologies can track the health of the user to prevent diseases is great. However, some wearable technologies like watches can collect confidential data. This could lead to more occurrences of something like the 23andMe data breach.
ReplyDeleteWhile I enjoyed the confident voice, I felt that the author used too many, “this will happen” statements. Rather, the author should have used, “this may happen” statements to make sure that it is clear that they are speaking more about a hypothetical and probable future, rather than straight up telling the reader what will happen, because in reality, nobody truly knows what will happen. Otherwise, I enjoyed how the author supported their claims with real world evidence, such as the mention of augmented reality glasses in the third paragraph to support the author’s claim about wearable technology having the ability to spread into new areas.
